Build log
What’s live, what’s in flight, what’s planned. Domtains is being built in phases directly on the domain-intelligence corpus (~400M domains). Legend: shipped in progress planned
shipped
Phase 0 — Foundation
- Live service on the domain-intelligence corpus (read-only), HTTPS.
- Single-domain lookup UI + JSON API (
/api/lookup). - Extension ladder (category A) — same name on every other TLD it’s registered in.
shipped
Phase 1 — T1 exact-brand matches + evidence
- Hyphen crutch (B) — existing hyphenated variants (
mete-media.com) of the name. - Domain hack (C) — assembled hacks that exist (
metemedia → mete.media, domain → doma.in). - Evidence enrichment on every prospect: screenshot thumbnail, developed-vs-parked (entropy), business email (MX), redirect to their brand (e.g.
notion.so → notion.com), traffic rank, WHOIS owner. - Prospects ranked by evidence (developed > redirects-to-brand > has-email > resolves > registered) and grouped by category with a pitch angle each.
shipped
Phase 2 — T2 expansion, scoring, owner clusters
- Prefix expansion (D) —
getmetemedia, themetemedia— and suffix expansion (E) —metemediastudio, metemediahq— with the residue classified (crutch word → T2, geo → T3, junk → downweighted). - Owner clustering — prospects sharing a registrant / nameserver / redirect target are grouped; a holder of ≥2 variants is a proven variant-buyer (score ×1.3).
- Demand-heat score per drop (Σ of evidence-weighted prospect scores, with a TLD-prestige gap multiplier) + an auction-play flag when ≥3 independent developed prospects exist.
shipped
Phase 3a — Bulk list check
- Bulk mode is live — paste or upload a list of dropping / available domains (up to 5,000) and Domtains scores every one, ranking them by demand-heat.
- Runs process in the background with a live progress bar; results land in a sortable table (demand, prospect counts by tier, top upgrade prospects with screenshots, auction-play flags).
- Downloadable CSV outbound list — one row per prospect (drop, prospect, category, tier, evidence, redirect, owner, score, screenshot, pitch) ready to work.
- Every run is stored, so a run URL stays shareable and re-openable.
shipped
Phase 3b — Out-of-corpus probe
- On any lookup, Probe for uncaptured & available variants generates high-signal candidates (extension-ladder gaps + top affixes) that aren’t in the corpus yet and DNS-checks them in real time.
- Surfaces live variants the corpus missed (someone already built on them) and possibly-available variants worth hand-registering (DNS-based — confirm before buying).
- Coming: fleet-scale DNS + registrar availability + screenshot ingest of what the probe finds (the corpus flywheel).
shipped
Phase 4a — Discoverability & agent-readiness
- Full SEO/AI pass:
robots.txt(welcomes AI crawlers),sitemap.xml,llms.txt, JSON-LD (Organization + WebSite + SearchAction), Open Graph / Twitter cards, favicon + web manifest, a custom 404, and shareable/?domain=deep-links — so the site gets indexed and surfaced by search engines and AI assistants.
shipped
Phase 4b — Defensive scan
- The reverse query, as a toggle on the bulk tab: feed it a list of variant domains and it finds the established brand each one threatens — so that brand’s owner would defensively acquire it.
- Strips a prefix / suffix / hyphen to the core, anchors on the
.com, and keeps only real brands (traffic rank / live business) — e.g.teslamotors.com → tesla.com,getnotion.com → notion.com. Same ranked table + CSV export.
shipped
Phase 4c — Bulk deep scan + screenshots
- Deep scan (DNS discovery) — an opt-in toggle on the bulk tab that also DNS-probes high-signal variants outside the corpus, so a live domain the corpus never captured still surfaces (⌁-marked). Fills the gap where a name has no registered variant in the corpus.
- Screenshots in bulk results — thumbnails render in the ranked table, with a show/hide toggle; click any screenshot to open it full-size in a lightbox.
- Readable results — the table now explains itself: Demand (relative upgrade-demand score) and Buyers (live businesses likely to buy, out of all registered variants), with a legend. “Buyers” now requires a real-business signal (email / traffic / redirect / genuine content), not just “has a screenshot”.
- Clicking a name opens it in a new tab, so a bulk result is never lost.
planned
Phase 4d — Portfolio, tiers, outbound
- Portfolio mode (run your held inventory as the input set), geo / connector / fuzzy match tiers, pitch export + owner-cluster collapse, and the probe→corpus screenshot flywheel.
Known gaps / notes
- Multi-label TLDs (
co.uk,com.au) use a simple split for now — PSL-aware split lands with Phase 2. - “No-domain” platform prospects (a live business on
x.myshopify.comwith no domain) — the easiest close — come with the probe engine (Phase 3). - Screenshots shown are the corpus’s latest capture; a prospect with no thumbnail is registered/parked or not yet captured.
